Weight Loss Tips
Just as beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder, the process of losing weight must surely be lodged in the mind of the dieter. It's no big secret that people are different and that what will work well for one person is not likely to work so well for another. This is very true of the whole weight loss process, which makes it difficult to provide people with generic weight loss tips that will work for them all.
In fact, most of the liberally divulged tips that are supposed to be a one size fits all solution to everyone's problem are only useful to a small percentage of the people they are aimed at, purely because of this principle of the differences between people, character types and even the differing lifestyles that people lead. But its not all bad news, as there are some basic, long established facts about losing weight that hold true for everyone, regardless of body size, shape, density, character, lifestyle or anything else you care to dream up as being a reason for failure to lose weight.
These are the fundamental weight loss facts that, if adhered to, will cause a person to lose weight as surely as they are standing there. So it is these fundamentals that will be provided here to form a basis of anyone's proposed plan to lose weight. All follow one incontrovertible fact that cannot be refuted:
When you consume fewer calories than your body burns, you will lose weight
Understanding this, you will see that there are three basic weight loss tips that are based on this fact, so it won't take you long to learn!
- Eat a good, healthy diet
- Get plenty of exercise
- Have the right mindset
They can be expanded to be a little more descriptive, but the short and sweet versions are the easiest to come to terms with. You might look at them and say, "Well, its just common sense," and you'd be correct. Unfortunately, far too many people dismiss common sense when they try to lose weight and try to do it using the latest must have diets or specially endorsed exercise routines by some big celebrity. Most are doomed to fail, because while they like the idea of being told what they must do, they do other things that will derail them, time after time.
Eat a good, healthy diet
This goes without saying. If you want to lose weight you simply cannot carry on eating huge meals loaded with fatty, high calorie foods or high GI carbohydrates. You cannot eat junk food or visit fast food restaurants and eat burgers and fries, or pizza or whatever else you like to do. You can't eat ready meals from the supermarket no matter how good it claims to be on the packet. The only way is to eat good, wholesome home cooked food that contains plenty of fresh vegetables and only lean cuts of meat or fish.
Breakfast should consist of a low GI cereal such as porridge oats or muesli, brown toast, fresh juice or better still a piece of fresh fruit or something similar. Most processed breakfast cereals are high in salt, sugar and other additives that will not help you to lose weight.
Other meals should be balanced and filling bit not too large that you feel over-full when you've finished them. Use common sense and you'll know what is good and what is bad. Then you must combine a good healthy diet with the next point, which is daily exercise.
Get plenty of exercise
A good healthy diet is only half of the weight loss equation. Without a decent level of daily exercise, your body will simply slow down its metabolism to match the reduction in calorie intake and you won't burn more than you are consuming if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. Exercising, even if its something as simple as going for a long walk twice a day is necessary for your body to burn more calories and increase your metabolism so your body does it naturally.
You don't necessarily need to go to a gym to workout, although this is a good idea if you have the time and the opportunity. Otherwise, get some walking or swimming in as often as possible and combine it with simple things you can do during the day. These can include running up and down the stairs instead of walking, putting some effort into the things you do so that you get your body moving faster and with more purpose than normal. A good diet combined with even basic daily exercise will pay dividends with your weight loss efforts.
Have the right mindset
This is a side of losing weight that many people don't think about. It has been proved that by having a positive mental attitude towards losing weight substantially increases your chances of succeeding over someone who has a negative mental attitude. It's all about knowing and believing that you can do it and continually reminding yourself of that all day long. When you believe you can do something, you can do it!
Lastly, and by no means least, there is one final thing that you must never do if you want to have any guarantees of success. You must never cheat! Cheating is something that scuppers most people's chances of success when they get all the basics right, because they don't realize they are cheating, or they think that because no one sees them do it, it's all right to do it. Well, think again next time you sneak that packet of potato chips or that tasty candy bar when you think no one is looking! There is always one person who will know what you did and they will find an amazing variety of things to blame that failure on, except the one true reason. That person is you and that reason is that you cheated. Plain and simple.
So don't cheat. Don't think you can get away with even the smallest cheat is you are really truly serious about losing weight, because you will not. Stay on track, be determined and believe you can do it and you will!
